DDP in "The Devil's Rejects"

As a huge fan of "House of 1000 Corpses", I had been eagerly awaiting the sequel for about a year and a half. (The constant adds on WWE programing didnt help my patience much either.) Now since this is a wreslting blog I will spare everyone my marked out review of the movie and just say that DDP was great as a white trash bounty hunter. In my opinion the should have used him more. But I will just say good job to Mr. Paige for a great performance.

Great American Bash PPV --- Bye Bye Hassan, JBL-The Tista, Bra and Panties, More

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I am actually going to order a Smackdown ppv on Sunday. Now you may be asking yourself "Why the craziness?" Well, there are a few things that definitely intrigue me about the card, with the most intriguing by far being the Hassan/Undertaker match. WWE has caved to pressure from UPN to not have the character on the show anymore, and the word on the internet is that rather than trade Hassan to Raw, the creative team has decided to have the Undertaker KILL OFF MUHAMMAD HASSAN at the GAB. Now this, my friends, is must see tv.

I am also looking forward to the BWO vs. Mexicools. I don't know why, but I think the BWO is cool. Maybe its because I watched The Rise and Fall of ECW for the first time last night.

Also, I am moderately looking forward to the bra and panties match and the tag team title match.

And...I can't believe I'm actually typing this right now...but I am looking forward to the JBL vs The Tista match. I have been such a vocal opponent of JBL in the past. I hated JBL. Howerever, I am completely indifferent to Buttista. I find Buttista so utterly boring that I have actually started liking JBL. I would much rather have the strap on someone I hate than someone that I am completely indifferent to. I know The Tister was scheduled to win the match and then face Hassan at Summerslam, but with the imminent death of Hassan on Sunday, I am interested in seeing what booking changes will be made. And remember, as Bedingfield pointed out in the Smackdown Letdown, the one who gets over on the "go-home" show before a PPV usually loses the match. So maybe JBL has a chance.

I am not, however, looking forward to Eddie vs. Rey MXCLLIIV. I know alot of "smarks" love this feud, but I don't. Listen, I like Rey Misterio fine, and I don't have a problem with Guerrero. What I do have a problem with is a lazy "creative" writing team that cannot come up with fresh ideas for either character. I hate re-runs, even if a child molestation/infidelity/bastard-child "secret" is involved.

I will have complete results posted Sunday evening for the 2 or 3 people who read this site.

Smackdown Letdown

This ought to be interesting.
Here we go...

seg. 1 Rey vs. Super Crazy
grade B
comment: I am a sucker for a good lucha libre match. Many drunk nights. Would have given this match an A if it had any other ending then the obvious Eddie run-in.

seg. 2 Teddie/Eddie, Christian, Animal/Heidenrich
grade B+
comment: Good promo segment all around. Love the "Seacrest Out" ending and Heidenrich's poem.

seg. 3 Animal/Heidenrich vs. Jobbers
grade C+
comment: Nice to see no-name jobbers get squashed. Takes me back.

seg. 4 Eddie vs. Benoit
grade C
comment: "And Triple H..err..Randy Orton..err Eddie your surprise opponent will be...CHRIS BENOIT." Havent seen that 30 times in the last year.

seg. 5 Diva promo
grade C
comment: As much as I hate segments like this I cannot totally trash a segment with bra and panties and JBL being compared to MLK.

seg. 6 Booger T vs. Simon Dean
grade D+
comment: During this match I took a smoke break for the 5th time, 5th time, 5th time, 5th time, 5th time. But I did like reliving JBL chasing Mexicans. Hilarious.

seg. 7 JBL "Victory Speech"
grade D
comment: I have a theory that has been proven correct 8 times out of 10. Whoever gets over on the last TV show always loses the championship matches at PPV.
But Batista didnt beat up JBL so I dont know if it applies here.

Overall Grade C-
Final Comment: Obviously they had to add exrtra promos due to the whole Hassan thing which made for a poorly timed show. I hope WWE stand their ground on this character and at least put him back on Raw. It would be a shame to let it go.

Raw Recrap...I mean "RAW Recap"

God damn it, who is writing this crap. Last week, I predicted a that the WWE was on the verge of rebounding from the last 5 years of crap we've been subjected to. Last night proved me wrong. After 3 solid shows (even though the 4th of July show sucked, it was important because of the Michael's heel turn, so I'll say it was solid), we get this crapfest.
RECAP:
1)Bischoff comes out to address John Cena's actions from last week. Says Cena will have a non-title lumberjack match against Shitking. I hate when they have the champion in a non-title match and I hate Shitsakey. But I like lumberjacks in a non-sexual way.

2)IC Title Match - Shelton Benjamin def. Carlito (C) by disqualification.
It is announced that the title will change hands on a count out. Immediately I know that Carlito will get himself disqualified. Why does Benjamin keep trying top-rope moves when he can't execute them. He looked really bad. Then Carlito hits him in the nuts and gets disqualified. When in the hell did they start disqualifying for that? I demand that every match Ric Flair has ever won be reversed. I also demand a pastrami sandwich, but keep that pesky Jonathan Coachman away, sneaky bastard.

3)Angle Invitational- Kurt Angle def. Matt Martel by submission (Ankle lock)
I actually didn't mind this, except for the fact that a low-blow will disqualify you but a two minute chokehold won't. What kind of logic is that? Also, I hope this isn't leading to a Martel/Angle match at Summerslam. Please get something better for Angle to do.

4)Diva Search
Holy God, this is the worst thing ever. Last year, the "trash talking" competition was decent, but this year the comments were all pre-taped. And damn these chicks are stupid. Loud "Boring" chant throughout the segment. Who likes this? Who are they marketing this to? WWE has a history of discontinuing angles with no explanation, and I don't think anyone would mind if they did it here. God this sucked. Sucked sucked sucked.

5)Kerwin White/Bischoff/Jericho
I thought this was horrible. Kerwin White is a funny idea gone horribly wrong. "If its not white, its not right"? It was fine for him to say that, but not fine for Bischoff to laugh. This gimmick is making white people look bad. So lets see: white people are bad, Arab people are bad, Mexicans are bad...so that explains why Special K is the WWE champ! Figured it out.
Whats worse is that Jericho asks Bischoff to approve a battle of the bands for next week. I hate when they do live music performances on Raw. Remember Nitro? Kiss, Megadeth, West Texas Rednecks? It didn't work.

6)Shawn Michaels interviewed by Todd Grisham
When Michaels was shown talking on a cell phone, I thought it was forshadowing for somebody's return. HHH? Nash? Hall? Mideon? Turns out it was nothing.

7)Chris Masters def. Rosey in a Masterlock Challenge squash
Can the WWE bury the tag team division any lower? Yes, apparently they can. WEEEELLLLLL ITS THE BIG SLOW. And nobody cares. Atleast they are putting Masters in a feud with someone. I hate how they use Big Show. He could be a monster main eventer if they built him up right.

8)Edge interviewed by Todd Grisham and goes off on internet fans.

9)Hulk Hogan responds to Michaels' challenge
I didn't like how Hogan didn't get a ring introduction. The fans were nuts for him. Long ovation. Michaels comes out and cuts a very bad, boring promo. I don't think Michaels likes playing the heel in this feud because he has been holding back on his promos. He is trying to play the "cool heel", ala Kevin Nash or DX. For this feud to really be effective, he needs to start putting down the fans and be a true heel (think Hogan's heel-turn promo at Bash at the Beach '96). Michaels is a selfish, self-serving prima donna who is only interested in furthering his own agenda. Apparently Hogan is the same way, but he's Hogan, and I mark for him, so I don't care.

10)Edge def. Kane in a steel cage match
I didn't like how they used Matt Hardy here. I don't know how I would've have done it better, but it just didn't work for me. Then we get treated to a 20 minute yawn fest of Kane vs. Edge XXIV.

11)John Cena def. Shitpee in a lumberjack match.
Cena wins when all the faces come out to attack the heel lumberjacks.

I Liked:
1)Hogan's promo

I was indifferent to:
1)Bischoff's opening promo
2)IC Title match
3)Angle invitational
4)Lumberjack match
5)Masterlock challenge
6)Edge putting-down internet fans

I Hated:
1)Diva Search
2)Kerwin White
3)The idea of Cena/Jericho "battle of the bands"
4)Matt Hardy's ambush
5)Kane/Edge XXLIII
6)Michael's promo

WWE Raw Preview---Steel Cage, Matt Hardy, Hulk Hogan, John Cena, ECW, Matt Stryker, Divas

PWInsider.com has reported the following for tonight's Raw:

Edge vs. Kane in a steel cage match. How will Matt Hardy do a run-in in a steel cage match?

Balls Mahoney and Axl Rotten are backstage.

Matt Stryker/Striker/Martel is also backstage.

Tonights Diva Search segment is entitled "Trash Talkin'"

Also, WWE.com's official Raw preview says that tonight Hulk Hogan will answer Shawn Michaels' Summerslam challenge and Bischoff will react to Stone Cold John Cena's actions last week. Sounds like must see tv. And that's not meant to be sarcastic.

Hassan's Promo from WWE.com

More information about the angle I used to hate but now I'm starting to like:

The mainstream media has been ripping WWE and UPN for the terrorist angle last week. WWE, following the old adage "any publicity is good publicity" has posted a video on its website of Hassan defending his actions. PWinsider.com has posted a complete transcript of the promo. R.I.P. Freda Wright Sorce

I know that this is a wrestling blog but I would just like to take a quick timeout to remember a great person who was taken too soon. I have been listening to the nationaly syndicated(sp?) DON AND MIKE SHOW for several years and it has become part of my daily routine. I was shocked yesterday to find out that Don's wife Freda passed in a horrible car wreck late sunday evening. Freda was a very important part of the show and I am sure Don's life. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Don and his son Bart, as well as their entire family.

Raw Review --- Piper, Cena, and the return of Matt F'n Hardy

Every Tuesday, it is my duty to write my Raw review. Ha, I said "duty", but no time to laugh about it now, I have a column to write.

Segment #1- Raw opens with the set for "the Cabana" set up in the ring. Carlito comes down and says that his guest will be Shawn Michaels. But instead, Chris Jericho comes out. Jericho says HBK will be his guest on the "Highlight Reel." Interesting exchange here, with pudgy Carlito saying Jericho's "lovehandles" hang out over his tights when he wrestles, and Jericho saying "I'm the Johnny Carson, you're the Carson Daily." Roddy Piper's music hits, and the Hot Rod says he is the original talk show host in the WWE and HBK will be in "Piper's Pit" tonight.
ANALYSIS: Nice suprise, good mic work by all three participants GRADE: 8/10

COMMERCIAL BREAK

Segment #2- Back from commercial, we are treated to a video package of the superstars in Japan. A Japanese fan asks John Cena if he "can touch it." Gay.

Chris Masters vs. Tajiri- Nice pyro for Masters. It had the production value of WCW Saturday Night. Tajiri takes control early with some nice athletic kicks and stuff and gets an "ECW" chant from the crowd. Then Masters hits the Masterlock out of nowhere. RESULT: Masters wins by submission.
ANALYSIS: Am I the only one who likes Chris Masters? GRADE: 7.5/10

Backstage, we see HBK getting some coffee. He is wearing the puffy shirt from that Seinfeld episode.

COMMERCIAL BREAK

Segment #3- Raw returns from break with a promo of Kane's appearence at "Comic Con" in San Diego. Okay, whatever.

Backstage, we see Edge, Lita, and Schnitsky in the dressing room, watching footage of the "Edge/Lita wedding." Edge says his favorite part is when Matt Hardy's music came on. Apparently, Snitzkey has a foot fetish, and if he helps Edge win his match against Kane, Shitskee will get to eat Lita's feet. Gross. When did Vince Russo return to the WWE creative team?

We then see footage of Triple H bleeding profusely after the Hell in a Cell match at Vegence. Jim Ross says HHH is recovering and will be returning in a few weeks. Funny, since he wrestled in a dark match that night.

ANALYSIS: Nothing like a good foot fetish angle to make me forget there was no wrestling in this segment. GRADE: 5/10

COMMERCIAL BREAK

Segment #4- Back from commercial, we see Carlito already in the ring as Shelton Benjamin is introduced. Guess they didn't want to play Carlito's horrible entrance music again. Since when does the defending champion come out first? The match starts with some nice spots, but just as the momentum is building, we get ANOTHER COMMERCIAL BREAK
We return with Coach telling us that Carlito controlled the action during the break. I don't know if I trust Coach since he stole my pastrami sandwich. Anyhow, some more wrestling, some back-and-forth near-falls, and then Carlito gets himself counted out to retain the title. I hate that rule. Why doesn't every heel champ just get himself counted out or d-q'd? John Cena is backstage arguing with Bischoff
ANALYSIS: Good match, but for some reason, I just can't get in to Benjamin. GRADE:8.5/10

COMMERCIAL BREAK
Segment #5- John Cena comes to the ring. Big pop when his music hits. He so over with the fans right now, but how long will it last? Bedingfield bought a spinny necklace thing at Raw last week. Cena says its been a tough day, because Bischoff has been up his ass all day. Gay. He says Bischoff reminds him of his mom from jr. high. Does that mean he had a different mom in jr. high? He then starts calling Jericho "Y2Cheap." I don't understand this hip-hop lingo. He says that if Jericho "wants some, come get some" but Bischoff comes out instead. They trade insults and then Bischoff says Cena can only defend the title when he says he can. Jericho comes out but Bischoff tells him he has to wait until Summerslam. Bischoff puts down Cena as an "unfit champ" and then Cena hits him with his finishing move and says "Welcome to the new Raw bitch."

Analysis: Re-run of the Austin/McMahon angle from the attitude era. Cena 3:16 says "I just stole your gimmick." Its fine though, I think it will play out well. GRADE:8.5/10

COMMERCIAL BREAK

Segment #6-Diva Search
Some nice HLA here, and Leila turns heel on Earl Hebner (when did he get his own intro music). Simona molests Coach with a sword in the "WTF?" moment of the night.
ANALYSIS: What if that was really Dave Hebner, the evil twin brother of Earl? Leila sure would feel stupid then. Just have Elisabeth and Ashley both win and make it stop.
GRADE: 3/10

COMMERCIAL BREAK

SEGMENT #7-Angle Invitational: Kurt Angle vs. Fired NYC teacher
Angle comes in and says he is starting up the Angle Invitational on Raw. This is where some jabroni gets a chance to win Angle's olympic medal by lasting three minutes in the ring. The challenger is Matt Martel...Matt Stryker...oh who cares? He's the guy who got fired for calling in sick to go wrestle indy shows. This was actually decent, except Stryker totally whimping out and tapping to the ankle lock immediately. You couldn't hold on for two more seconds?
ANALYSIS:Even though this was somewhat entertaining, please find something better for Angle...please?
GRADE:8/10

SEGMENT #8-Backstage, Kane is asked about his match against Edge. He does his evil laugh. Then we see Edge and Lita backstage and ...WHAT THE HELL? Was that Matt Hardy jumping Edge? I think it was! Nice.
After a commercial break, the Kane vs. Edge match begins and they wrestle around for a while before Schzitskie runs in and attacks Kane. Edge is disqualified. Does Shitsky get to eat Lita's feet even though Edge lost? Guess will have to...WHAT THE HELL? Its Matt Hardy again! Some pretty stiff shots are exchanged, and some hair pulling. Then security guards come in and seperate the two. Hardy grabs the mic and tells Adam (Edge) and Lita (interesting that he didn't refer to her as Amy here) that he will make their lives hell. And the WWE can go to hell too. Then he gets arrested.
ANALYSIS: I marked out for this, even though its an obvious work. Loved this segment and I hope the creative team doesn't screw it up.
GRADE: 10/10

COMMERCIAL BREAK

Segment #9 Piper's Pit
Finally, we will get an answer from HBK. Well, maybe not. He just talks about giving his all for the fans, blah blah blah. Then Piper demands an answer and gets a superkick instead. RAW goes off the air.
ANALYSIS: I'm not sure what to think. On one hand, I thought HBK struck out because he really needed to deliver a strong heel promo and failed to do so. But then he superkicks Roddy Piper and forces us to tune in next week to get an answer. Nice cliffhanger of a cliffhanger.
GRADE: 9/10

Overall, I thought it was an excellent show, with the Diva Search being the lone super-weak spot. I think Raw is building towards a turn around, with Cena vs. Bischoff, Edge vs Hardy, and Hogan/Michaels leading the way. Wrestling popularity goes in cycles, and its been in decline for about 5 years now...so the time is right for the next big wave to hit.
OVERALL GRADE: 9/10

Ted DiBiase loves Jesus

Bedingfield keeps insisting that Ted DiBiase is dead. He's always wrong and is a poop face.

From pwinsider.com:

"The Daily Citizen in Arkansas features an article today on Ted DiBiase appearing at the 7/2 Freedom Fest religious event, signing autographs. It's always interesting to note that DiBlase rarely, if ever, acknowledges that he's currently on the WWE creative team."

WWE Roster Cuts Commentary

WWE Roster Cuts Gone Wild

So the WWE has done some big time cutbacks to help turn around the companies financial woes. All of this coming as they work to re-sign Brock Loser to a big money contract. At this time, over a dozen superstars have been released, including the Dudley Boys and Billy Kidman. Here are my comments on some of the fired wrestler:

Dudley Boys- They weren't cut due to lack of talent, but because WWE's "creative" team couldn't come up with any storylines for them. They'll be back soon.
Joy Giovanni- I've seen hotter.
Kenzo Suzuki- Who?
Matt Morgan- With the right push, he had the physique to be a main event jobber
Charlie Haas- No personality. Who cares?
Jackie Gayda- Horse-faced
Marty Jannetty-This is disapointing to people who like men sexually
Maven- I'm upset about this one
Billy Kidman- How will Hogan get his win back now?
Spike Dudley-Most likely to show up in NWA-TNA

Hussan/Undertaker Terrorism Angle

Hussan/Undertaker Terrorism Angle Video Removed from WWE.COM

The backlash is continuing against the WWE following the terrorism segment aired on last night's Smackdown. Unfortunately for WWE, the segment aired the same day as the terrorist attacks in London. WWE and UPN ran a "parental advisory" screen crawl throughout the episode, but the backlash has forced the WWE website to completely remove the footage.

Top 10 List---Catchphrases

Good afternoon. Sorry about the typos in the previous post, as Bedingfield was probably stoned out of his mind (for chrissakes, he gave the terrorism angle an A+!!) Every so often, both Bedingfield and myself will make top ten lists. Todays top ten list is TOP 10 CATCHWORDS/PHRASES

10. "You're fired!" Vinnie Mac
9. "To be the man, you gotta beat the man" Ric Flair
8. "Hey yo" Scott Hall

I welcome any additions, comments, or criticism regarding this list. Have a nice day.

Live Raw Review from 7/4/05 ---HBK turns heel!

RAW REVIEW

This site is designed by and for wrestling fans. Feel free to share your thoughts on anything happening in the world of professional wrestling.

Topics for my first post:
Review of Raw from 7/4/05 (I was there live!)

Why Smackdown! is horribly awful and will continue to get worse

REVIEW OF RAW FROM 7/4/05

I was at Raw Monday night. I have seen one other Raw broadcast in person, but I remember very little about my first experience.

Let me start off by saying that I am a huge mark for Hulk Hogan, and I have been since I was 6 years old (I am 26 now). On last week's raw, I had a huge "mark-out" when Hogan was the suprise partner of Shawn Michaels and John Cena. Once I found out that Hogan would be appearing on the Fourth of July episode, I couldn't miss my chance to see him live for the first time. So, I called my buddy Bedingfield to see if he wanted to make the 4 hour drive with me from Bakersfield to Sacramento. He agreed, and I shelled out the $90 for two tickets and another $150 for the rental car; not to mention gas, food, a $30 Hogan tee shirt for me and a $20 stuffed Undertaker doll for my girlfriend. With this much invested, and the fact that I had to work at 9 am Tuesday morning, I was really hoping for a good show.

Overall, I thought it was a good show. The Cabana was fun. When Hogan's music hit I marked out big time. Carlito and Angle were good on the mic, as usual. After they attacked Hogan and Michaels made the save, I knew we were in store for a treat.

The tag match with Edge/Snitcshsky(sp?) vs. Kane/Big Show was boring. When is Edge finally going to get his singles push? What kind of name is Snitchsky? And please don't tell me that Kane and Big Show are going to join forces to create a main-event jobber tag team.

The Highlight Reel was good. Jericho is one of the most charismatic personalities in the game, and Cena is quickly improving his mic skills. Jericho is much better as a heel and deserves a main event push. Hopefully these two will be able to work a strong program together which will last past Summerslam, perhaps culminating at Survivor Series. I think Jericho should take the strap at Summerslam uncleanly, and have him defend it against a few big names on Raw (perhaps Big Show, Kane, Flair) before dropping it back to Cena at Survivor Series.

I won't even mention the Dupree/Venis match, except to ask "why are they taping a Sunday Night Heat match in the middle of Raw?"

Chavo Guerrero's new "Kerwin White" gimmick is funny, but I have no idea where they are going with this. There aren't any hispanics on Raw for him to feud with.

The main event was entertaining. My buddy Bedingfield was shocked by the Michael's heel turn, but I saw it coming. This will build up to a huge payoff at Summerslam, and opens the door for a whole new batch of storyline possibilities over the next couple of months. This may be the feud that turns around WWE's current misfortunes.

WHY SMACKDOWN! SUCKS AND WILL CONTINUE TO GET WORSE
I have to admit that I haven't been able to sit through an episode of Smackdown! in years now. It has always seemed like the "WCW Thunder" version of WWE television. The recent draft made it worse. Batista was over with the fans, but it can only last so long for a guy with no mic skills and limited in-ring ability. Benoit is a great mat worker but his lack of charisma make him a perennial upper mid-carder. Randy Orton has potential, but is still too green. Christian is a fun character, but due to WWE's relunctance to fully push smaller wrestlers, he will likely be buried in upper mid card with Benoit soon. And Muhammad Hussan is a complete gimick wrestler with no staying power. Smackdown's only bright spot was the Guerrero/Mysterio feud, but now thats starting to get played out and weird. Is Russo writing this angle? With the impending move to Friday night, WWE is obviously making Smackdown the "b" show.
